Sugar Bearās owner is a disabled senior citizen who lives for her dogs. She had always been a one-dog woman, but after the passing of her beloved thirteen-year-old dog, she worked with a rescue to adopt a new Pekingese dog. She picked out a girl named Peekaboo, who was rescued from a puppy mill. A few days later, the rescue called her and said that no one else had an interest in Peekabooās brother, so he may be put down if she didnāt want to take him.Ā
And so, she suddenly became a two-dog person. Itās funny how that happens.Ā
Sugar Bear settled in quickly, and the family of three has been happy. With a very limited fixed income, the pupās mom has budgeted out their basic veterinary care and food. Everything seemed to be going great until a friendās cat batted her paw at Sugar Bear and scratched his eye.Ā
Immediately, Sugar Bear was rushed to the hospital, and the eye was flushed. But after several return visits and concerning results, it was determined that the eye needed to be removed.Ā
Can you help with a donation to help Sugar Bear get needed surgery and live a full life as a one-eyed pup?
Sugar Bear is home and resting. Please send prayers and positive energy to Sugar Bear and his mom.
One thing many of you have been asking is if Sugar Bear "really needs" the surgery. He did receive every possible treatment option for his eye condition before the decision was made to remove the eye. Saving the eye was the goal from the beginning, but when it didn't work, they turned to For The Love Of Alex for help. Sugar Bear's survival depended upon the removal.
Sugar Bear's surgery went well. He's exhausted and ready to go home and rest, but he is well.
